The latest telecommunication system for broadcasting moving pictures and sound is known as Digital television (DTT) and as the name implies this relies upon the transmission and reception of digital signals as opposed to the more conventional analogue formats. Other ways have been devised to receive digital television. Among the most familiar to people are digital cable and digital satellite. In some countries where transmissions of TV signals are normally achieved by microwaves, digital MMDS is used.
For the purposes of this article we want to take a look at purchasing a new Flat Screen Television and in this case the television in question is the Samsung LE-20S51B.
The LE-20S51B is a 20in 4:3 LCD and the prices for these are around 300 pounds sterling or 600 US dollars. The screen resolution is 640 X 480 and with regards to being HD Ready the answer is no. The Samsung has 1 (RGB) scarts and the type and number of Multimedia interfaces the LE-20S51B uses is none at all. The type of Tuner for this TV is Analogue and the Samsung is available from a wide variety of outlets.
All these points being taken into consideration, how would we view the Samsung LE-20S51B?
Initially we would take a look at the picture quality and as such our score for this would be 8, as the other half of the “Sound and Vision” double act our opinion of the sound quality would be 6. With regards to the availability and number of relevant connections, our score would be 6. If we take a look at the overall “featureability” our score would be 6 and with regards to ease of use and overall value for money our opinion and score would be, 10 and 8 respectively.
Taking everything into consideration our overall view of the package would be Not bad. This is one of the cheapest (or least expensive) LCD’s around and the screen provides a decent enough picture depsite some of the colours (and especially the blacks) being pretty lacklustre.
The fact is that given the wide variety of models and makes available today you should find something that suites your needs as well as your wallet.
